ASIC and the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), the national charity regulator, have formally agreed to collaborate and assist each other to achieve their objectives and to deliver streamlined regulation for registered charities that are also registered with ASIC as companies. Last year the ACNC and ASIC announced that charities registered with ASIC (estimated to be approximately 6000) would now primarily report to the ACNC and they would not need to pay the ASIC annual review fee.

Australia's TTG Transportation Technology is exporting its trademarked system for running trains on time and at lower energy and environmental emission levels to New Zealand's national rail operator, KiwiRail. The two companies have signed a contract following a trial and competitive tendering process to roll out TTG's Energymiser C-DAS system across KiwiRail's freight trains retrofitting up to 182 mainline diesel and electric locomotives. TTG exports Energymiser to the UK, where it has achieved energy savings of 14 to 20 per cent for high-speed passenger and coal trains.

Nearly half the commercial TV content made in Australia during 2011-12 was news and current affairs programming, says William Milne, Director of Integrated Collections at the ABS, that's out of the nearly 79,000 hours produced during the year. Even so, digital games developers produced 245 digital games in last year, with the majority - 188 of them - made for mobile or web platforms. Mobile and web games are the cheapest format to produce, averaging $74,000 per production, compared with $1.2 million for console games, he said.

Fewer opioid drug therapy clients aged under 30 (AIHW)

Fewer Australians under 30 are receiving pharmacotherapy treatment for dependence on opioid drugs such as heroin, morphine or codeine, according to a report released today by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW). 'Of these, the proportion of clients aged less than 30 halved compared with the proportion in 2006-down from 28% to 13%-while the proportion of clients aged 50 and over doubled-from 8% to 18%,' said AIHW spokesperson Amber Jefferson. Most clients need to attend a dosing point regularly to take their opioid pharmacotherapy drug under supervision.
