Cure for type-1 diabetes presented at international conference

-       284 million diabetics worldwide

A new and patented cure for Types 1 and 1.5 Diabetes was presented at the 5th International Biopharmaceutical Industry Development Innovation Forum in Shanghai China today by Prof. Dr. Ulrich von Arnim, a German who has been living in Australia for 17 years.

Dr von Arnim’s cure uses a combination of drugs that are freely available with the main one being a tuberculosis vaccine.

He told the conference, “Over 20 years research with clinical trials among 16,000 patients have yielded an 80% success rate meaning 8 in 10 patients treated were free from insulin for the remainder of their lives.

"The treatment is administered over 9 to 12 months and some side effects are expected which are similar to a bout of the flu with high temperatures and aching muscles.  In extremely rare instances there may be an adverse reaction to the TB drug BCG, but this is treatable today.

“But overwhelmingly, the results have been extremely successful changing the lives of diabetics who until treated were self-injecting insulin and had longevity issues as well as the prospect of losing their sight or a limb,” he says.

The treatment, which has been patented worldwide in 2009, stops the autoimmune reaction, which destroys insulin-producing beta cells.

With 284 million patients worldwide, diabetes is one of the most challenging health problems.  Diabetes imposes a large economic burden to the individual, the national healthcare system and the economy, and this new treatment makes it possible for type-1 diabetes patients to live their lives without taking artificial insulin.

Pharmaceutical companies will be granted licences to manufacture and market the medications required for the treatment.

It is estimated that the overall treatment costs will amount to around $80,000 for 17 hospital treatment cycles per patient in a 12 month period and follow-up testing and treatment.

Prof von Arnim’s goal is to establish clinic to treat patients who have already lined up to be his first patients.  Once established, Prof. von Arnim will train doctors/laboratory heads in own training centers, i.e. model hospitals and laboratories.
